The Department
of Mathematics started its journey in 2014.
Imparting quality education and research are the main areas of concentration of this department. The department possesses well qualified, dynamic
faculty members whose research interests lie in different branches of Mathematics including Algebra, Topology,
Mathematical Biology, Numerical
Approximation, Fluid Dynamics, etc. The Department has made its post-graduate CBCS curriculum
compatible with the leading
research institutions &
Universities of India. To focus more on the future prospect of students, the
Department has framed the curriculum in such a fashion that
it is also compatible with the pattern of National/
International level Ph. D. Entrance Examinations/ Competitive
Examinations. The courses illuminate the theoretical as well as the practical
aspects of studying
Mathematics. The tools we engage in our teaching-learning process
put an emphasis on the interaction between
students and teachers
which certainly help to develop
among the students the skill of interpreting Mathematics in one’s own way. This makes them one step
forward towards the building of research skills. Since most of our students come from academically/socially/financially unprivileged background, we start teaching Mathematics from a very basic level. Keeping in mind the level of abstraction of the area, while teaching them we attach more emphasis on providing them with a holistic understanding of the various
branches of Mathematics. Our sense of responsibility always
keeps us alert and hence we closely
observe the socio-economic conditions of our students and the nascent
stage of our university. Therefore, we always intend to walk some extra miles for the benefit of our students. So, as a response to this, the Department organizes
remedial classes and coaching classes
for NET/ SET/ GATE on a regular
basis. The Department offers
a two-year Masters course spanned across four semesters and a Ph. D. course. At present there are 13 research scholars
working for the completion of their theses on diverse topics. The teachers of the department have taken an initiative to gather books and articles
together to set up a departmental library
as academically rich as possible
so that the students might have an easy access
to books and articles related
to their courses. The department
has a well-equipped computer laboratory. The department often organises special lectures by eminent Professors
from National/ International Universities/ Research Institutes to help students understand
the recent developments of Mathematics and also to motivate
the post-graduate students
for pursuing higher
studies. The students
of the department are also encouraged to get involved
in extra-curricular activities, like cultural activities, making the campus green & beautiful, sports and some
outreach programmes. In short, the aim of the
department is to facilitate the formation
of scientific, healthy minds having deep
insight of various new areas of research in Mathematics.
